Texas Hold’em
Texas Hold’em is generally the most common and well-known, and also considered one of the easiest, poker variation around the world. It is played with each player receiving two cards from the dealer, who then places five cards in succession, face-up, on the table in what is known as “the flop”. Each of the cards in the flop is placed after a round of betting. If the betting reaches the final round, the players will use the flop, in combination with their own hand, to form the strongest winning hand.
Pot Limit Omaha
Also highly popular, this variation of poker is very similar to Texas Hold’em, except for one major difference. In Pot limit Omaha poker, players each receive four cards, instead of two. However, only two of the cards can be used to make the final hand in conjunction with the flop, the extra two cards nonetheless provide a greater choice and opportunity to form a strong hand.
Seven-Card Stud
One of the most popular forms of poker in past generations, Seven-card Stud is still widely played at online casinos. It is a generally slower kind of poker game to others and involves the players each being dealt an initial three cards, two face-down and one face-up. Betting then commences, and after each round, the players receive an additional three cards, face-up, until a final seventh card is finally received, face-down. If the betting reaches the final round, players must show all their seven cards and make a winning hand out of five of them.
Razz
Razz is an unusual variation, called “lowball” poker, and is basically Seven-card Stud poker reversed and simplified. The aim here is to get the “lowest” hand possible, with aces being the lowest card, and then counting upwards from the number two card onwards, the king being the highest, and therefore the worst card. An example of the best possible hand in Razz is called the “five-lo” and consists of a five, four, three, two, and ace.
Video Poker
Video poker is a simplified variation of the old “five-card draw” poker variant, and before online games existed it was generally played on a casino machine very similar to video slots. The online version, though, is practically identical, with the only difference being that online casinos may often have a greater selection and can generally afford larger payouts.
Caribbean Stud Poker
What makes Caribbean Stud Poker stand out from other poker variations is that, in this game, the player competes against the dealer rather than other players. The rules generally follow that of “Five-card Stud” poker, where each player is dealt five cards. Like blackjack NZ though, in Caribbean Stud Poker, the dealer is required to show one card of their hand at all times. If the player wins, they receive a 1:1 payout, and if the dealer’s hand doesn’t qualify, you receive your stake back.
